Weight loss surgery involves various procedures performed on people who are obese. Weight reduction is accomplished by altering the size of the stomach through the removal of a portion of the stomach (Sleeve Gastrectomy,) or by resecting and re-routing the small intestines to a stomach pouch (Gastric Bypass or Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass).

The surgical procedures result in long-term weight loss, recovery from diabetes, hypertension, and decreased mortality. The benefits are not only limited to weight loss, but surgery can improve a person's overall health, and self-esteem. If you are overweight and tired of failed diets, The Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Riverside Community Hospital offers advanced, minimally invasive surgical procedures for individuals seeking a more permanent weight loss solution. Our bariatric team and skilled physicians are here to help you every step of the way to ensure you achieve the results you are seeking. Review the following video to see if you are a candidate or if surgery is an option for you.

Attend a Weight Loss Support Group

The Center for Surgical Weight Loss Support Group is open to people who have had bariatric surgery or are interested in learning more about the surgical option to weight control. The purpose of the support group is to provide individuals with an opportunity to share information, offer support, gain insight and become aware of options as they work to regain and maintain optimum health.

Following weight loss surgery, patients are faced with altering their eating and drinking behavior, and making sense of the role food plays in their lives. Support groups offer the following benefits:

  • Fellowship through a common bond
  • Source of up-to-date information about surgery and latest developments
  • Education in nutrition, exercise, and postoperative needs
  • Patients are able to share their experience
  • Increases the success of bariatric surgery
  • Learn behavior modification skills

A typical session will consist of a Welcome Announcement; Introductions; Presentation/Discussion on a Topic; Question & Answer Session with a Surgeon and Small Group Discussions for Sharing of Information.

Please join us (NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED) and let's help each other while we help ourselves. Family, friends, significant others, and your support system are welcomed.
