Riverside Community Hospital is a Leapfrog "A Grade" hospital providing care for heart conditions, an accredited chest pain center and complex surgical procedures.
After careful consideration, we have made the decision to close our pediatric unit with 16 beds on November 17, 2020, to meet the evolving needs of our community. As part of our ongoing assessment of community needs, we have experienced a downward trend of patient volumes over the past few years. In January, we temporarily closed the program and later shifted our efforts to care for our COVID patients.
By closing the pediatric program we will focus on the specialties and services that address our community's current needs, allowing the hospital to better target resources to provide the most comprehensive, safe and efficient model of care. Riverside remains a safety net for the community to handle any emergent needs as we will still treat emergent pediatric patients.
In the future, we plan to transition the pediatric unit to a postpartum overflow NICU, one where mothers and their babies can stay together, in hopes of a full and speedy recovery for our smallest and most fragile patients. Additionally, this space can also accommodate surrogate mothers, their newborns and new parents.

All three facilities serve Medi-Cal and Medicare patients.
We do not anticipate any layoffs for our 9 employees, as we have already transitioned them to other roles at the hospital.
