Riverside Community Hospital welcomes 91 new residents and fellows into graduate medical education
Riverside, CA – Riverside Community Hospital hosted a special White Coat Ceremony on Tuesday, June 26 to welcome 91 new residents and fellows in Graduate Medical Education (GME). Speakers at the ceremony included Peter Hemstead, chief executive officer at Riverside Community Hospital, Jason An, MD, designated institutional official GME, Steven Kim, MD, assistant designated institutional official GME, and Irma Lazo, assistant vice president of GME, HCA Far West Division. Following an overview of Riverside Community Hospital and the GME program, the residents and fellows received their official white coat and took a professional photo and group photos.
This past recruitment season, there were 50,754 applicants for GME programs in the United States. Riverside Community Hospital received 6,502 residency applicants and 767 fellowship applicants, resulting in 13% of all GME applications nationwide. Every opening in Riverside Community Hospital’s GME program was filled.
For the 2024/2025 academic year, each residency and fellowship have the following total headcounts, including the addition of the new class:
- Anesthesiology: 29 residents
- Cardiology: 9 residents
- Emergency Medicine: 39 residents
- Family Medicine: 26 residents
- GI: 4 fellows
- Internal Medicine: 54 residents
- Interventional Cardiology: 2 fellows
- Neurology: 15 residents
- OB/GYN: 11 residents
- Radiology: 15 residents
- Surgery: 15 residents
- Transitional Year: 13 residents
Riverside Community Hospital’s 232 residents and fellows make the GME program the largest within HCA Healthcare.
