Riverside Community Hospital Graduate Medical Education Announces Match of 65 new residents for the 2018 Class of Medical Residents
Riverside Community Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education program proudly announced another successful match of 65 new residents for the 2018 class of Medical Residents during the annual Match Day.
The match included residents for six current graduate medical education programs: Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, Transitional Year and OB/GYN as well its recently accredited General Surgery residency program.
The announcement was made during the annual event called Match Day – when graduating medical students learn where they will be spending the next several years as residents.
This year, Riverside Community Hospital’s Graduate Medical Program received over 4,000 applications for a limited number of positions. To list a few, the Internal Medicine residency program received 1,517 applications for 25 positions, Emergency Medicine received 703 for eight positions and Family Medicine received 754 applications for eight positions.
“Congratulations to all of the grad students who matched with Riverside Community Hospital’s GME program,” said Dr. Kenneth Dozier, Designated Institutional Official for Riverside Community Hospital’s GME. “We are excited to introduce another group of outstanding men and women for our 2018 class of residents. All of our residents have the opportunity to learn from our finest physician faculty who are dedicated to training the next generation of physicians and we look forward to welcoming them this summer.”
Riverside Community Hospital will welcome its new residents in June of this year during their annual White Coat Ceremony, with the program officially beginning in July.
The 2018 Main Residency Match® was the largest on record in the organization’s history[i] with a record-high 37,103 applicants, as reported by the National Resident Matching Program®, which matches fourth-year medical students with hospitals, and universities find the right “match” for their residency goals.
Riverside Community Hospital (RCH) launched its Graduate Medical Education program in 2016 with the accreditation of its Internal Medicine Residency Program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Since that time, RCH Graduate Medical Education continues to receive accreditation for Family Medicine, Transitional Year, Emergency Medicine, Neurology and General Surgery.
ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits graduate medical education (GME) programs. Residency is the final phase of a long educational process, required for a physician to practice medicine, and is most influential in determining where a physician eventually practices.
