Graduate Medical Education matches 89 residents
Riverside, CA – Riverside Community Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education program (GME) proudly announced another successful match of 89 new residents and 3 fellows for the incoming 2021-2022 class. Riverside Community Hospital (RCH) will welcome its new residents on July 1, 2021.
The match included residents for eight current Graduate Medical Education programs: Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, General Surgery, Anesthesiology, Radiology and Transitional Year, along with a Cardiovascular fellowship. Riverside Community Hospital, a part of the HCA Healthcare family, is just one of several comprehensive graduate medical education programs in the country. Riverside Community Hospital’s match rate was 96%, one of the highest in HCA nationwide. Combined, HCA is welcoming 1,982 residents and fellows in 2021 across the nation.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed and reshaped healthcare in the United States and has revealed the overwhelming demand for physicians and nurses in growing communities,” said Saba Habis, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Riverside Community Hospital. “We are proud that our Graduate Medical Education program is bringing physicians from all over the nation to the Inland Empire and that Riverside Community Hospital has become a highly sought-after destination for post MD training in the region.”
“This successful 2021 match was a cumulative effort between program directors, program coordinators, residents and hospital administration – a committed collaboration to excellence in training residents,” said Gregory Guldner, MD, RCH GME Emergency Medicine Program Director. “What is astounding is that none of the incoming residents have stepped foot on the RCH campus – all 2,000+ interviews were done virtually. The fact that RCH has matched at a 96% rate and has 89 incoming residents is evidence of our robust and comprehensive programs as well as the diligent work and passion of our GME team.”
This is the largest National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) in history, with an increase of 2.7% over 2020.[1] RCH saw a 20% increase in new residents from 2020.
Jackie D. Van Blaricum, Chief Executive Officer at Riverside Community Hospital, said, “Match Day is the first major stepping stone in a physician’s career. These residents – in selecting Riverside Community Hospital to be their training program, with the prospect of joining a new healthcare family, often relocating to a new state to do so – are making one of the most significant life choices a physician can make. We are beyond excited to welcome our new residents as we continue to train the doctors of tomorrow right here in the Inland Empire.”
Riverside Community Hospital launched its Graduate Medical Education program in 2015 with the accreditation of its Internal Medicine Residency Program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Since that time, RCH Graduate Medical Education continues to receive accreditation for Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Neurology, General Surgery, Radiology, Anesthesiology and Transitional Year.
