Letter to the Community RE: New Anthem Blue Cross Contract

I am pleased to announce that Riverside Community Hospital and Anthem Blue Cross have agreed on a new contract effective April 1, 2012. If you are an Anthem Blue Cross member, we welcome you back to Riverside Community Hospital for all your healthcare needs.

During the past few weeks, while our contract negotiations were underway, we received hundreds of phone calls from Anthem Blue Cross members in our community inquiring about their insurance coverage. We were pleased to make every effort to answer your questions and, when possible, allay your fears.

I can tell you however, it was particularly heartwarming to hear your words of support for Riverside Community Hospital. You told us how important Riverside Community Hospital is to you and your family; how much you depend on us for quality healthcare that’s so close to your home; and how you could never have health insurance that didn’t include access to Riverside Community Hospital.

While we can empathize how frustrating it is that the business of healthcare could sometimes disrupt care, for our part, it was about protecting our long term availability for you. The silver lining here is that your insistence that this be resolved immediately is also an indication that Riverside Community Hospital is working on the right things, committed to being the kind of hospital upon which you and your loved ones depend.
